Spotted this yonks ago in JP mag
Cheap axle tech.....

Apparently 'over there' the ISUZU Rodeo has a dana 44 rear either 4.56 or 4.88 with discs and beefier than a TJ Dana 44
but its 58" WMS as opposed to TJ 60" WMS.   no biggy I guess.

Been on e-blag again.... 'there's a surprise'.... and seeing what I saw.... I thought... Is a Fronters LWB the same as an ISUZU
'cos if it is ther are a couple of 2.2 LWB Frontera axles with 4.88 ratios and discs.

Lots of coil crap and shite to be cut off to start with the welding of spring perches (think YJ) but cheaper than anything else I can find at £185???

Just a thought any ideas?...........Is it a Dana 44?
I do know they are 6 lug on 5 and half PCI but so is a Waggy. See where I'm going?

The isuzu rodeo uses a 12 bolt rear axle made by isuzu, it's the same running gear as a MU trooper brava and a couple of other trucks. The frontera uses a GM unit 10 bolt unit both in the front and the back.

It's a common modification to swap out frontera axles for the far stronger isuzu units.

There was a dana axle in frontera's and that was the early 2.0 2.3 and 2.4 models, but the axle was actually made by sailsbury to a dana design.

Just my 0.02p from owning several frontera's / troopers and MU's.


Oh the isuzu 12 bolt rear is bomb proof by the way. 3.1 troopers have a 4.35 ratio, 3.2 4.56, 3.5 4.56, 2.6 is 4.56 and the 2.6 auto (rare as) is 4.77. That's of the top of my head so you might want to check that.

The above is also my understanding - I also recall the Frontera pumpkin has cooling fins cast into it....

The diff casting with the cooling fins is the early sailsbury unit, Sodding great chuck of metal, just same about the crown and pinion being made of butter.
