Hi all,

Have a wj 1999 4.7 v8 which had a heater problem. drivers side stuck on "warm", passenger side ok. (dual climate). the codes indicated blend door problems so I spent £100 on a repair kit. Part way through the repair procedure (cutting through the plastic box) I noticed the blend doors were fine and intact. The one towards the front of the car (passenger) works fine I can see it move up and down when I adjust the temp control. The drivers (front) doesnt move. I adjust the drivers temp and the door doesnt move, in fact theres no sounds at all from the actuator. opened the actuator to check fro any obvious damage but all seems ok. Prior to doing this work I reset the errors as the heater treater repair kit said to do. I now only get code 16 which is "Right temperature door not responding" Can anyone suggest what I might do to fix this problem?

little more info. I connected a supply to the actuator and it turned. I put a voltmeter on the connector that goes to the actuator and got a wildly fluctuating reading (digital meter)

It's the spindle that connects the door to the actuator that breaks.

Call me thick if you like but could you go into a bit more detail. The door moves fine on its own its just the actuator doesnt seem to be doing anything when connected to the car, but does work when an external supply is connected to it.

Swap it for the recirc door actuator and see if that works.

Not sure if you can get at it with the dash in situ. the recirc door is in the passanger (RHD) footwell area. Code 16 doesen't necessarily indicate door failure. It indicates no feedback response fom the door actuator motor. Code 24 would indicate the door spindle had split allowing the actuator to run beyond it's expected travel. With the actuator refitted properly to the HEVAC housing and engaged in the flap spindle, does the right hand flap still move freely by hand? if it doesn't it isn't broken. BTW, can you send me a copy of the instructions for this repair kit, never seen one.

Thanks, Ill take a look and see, not too keen on taking all the dash apart but it needs sorting, bloody freezing today as obviously the blend door is now in the down position since the actuator is in the house! The right hand door moves freely when not connected.
I'll scan the instructions for you no probs, they arnt the best - a poor quality black and white photocopy with a few grubby fingerprints on too now !
I'll probably not get it done for you till monday but will try and do it before.

Just to add, I said probably not till Monday because I'll not be at a pc with a scanner - not because I cant be bothered !!

Its fixed

I disconnected the battery as I was going to take the dash apart to find the other actuator and apparently airbags can go off if you dont. Anyway before I had chance to take the dash apart I got a phone call and needed to go out. I was going to try and put the actuator back on in in a midway position. As its blowing a gale and I was cold, I started the car to get a bit of heat in there and what do you know - the drivers side actuator moved ! So after a bit of aligning I put it back on and did the calibration thing and it is now working and showing no faults. I have no idea what happened, all I can presume is that by disconnecting the battery it has done some sort of reset on something. Anyway alls well that ends well, all thats left to do now is ebay the heater treater kit.
