drive shaft axle seal

well, had the new seal fitted yesterday, and its a bank holiday so cant get back to garage till tue,

what was a small leak on the driveshaft now seems to be a flood, or is it poss that excess fluid will drip out until a level is aquired,(types in hope)
 leak in area from the small round seal?  at end of shaft so could it be a different seal in there as apposed to axle shaft seal??

havent got a clue but just a little put out has i got get to work tomorrow and dont really want to lose the diff if all the oil drains away :roll:

which seal is it mate? is it the one on the prop shaft or the ones at the end of the axle behind the wheel? it sounds like who ever fitted it pinched the seal. if it is a new one you should have no leak at all. check the oil level by undoing the oil filler on the diff cover. the oil should just be up to the hole and not come pouring out.

as Greggmo says but if the oil stops leaking check the diff level berfore you drive or it could get expensive

Cheers for advice chaps appreciate that, its seeping from behind the wheel now at end of axle, its like a plastic cover that its coming from so guess the seal behind that? was the prob and not the seal inside the diff which they replaced, the garage are pretty good and been brillaint with the jeep.so will have a chat with them again.
They recently did the main rear seal and a few other jobs on the jeep and well worth recemending to anyone down these parts in Plymouth.

should that be the case what would be the technical name for that seal at end of axle cos i will  get one in now, scuse me knowledge i just aint got a clue. but must admit had the jeep a year now and think there brillaint little motors, been a godsend for work and family days.Glad i never got a Land Rover now :lol:

The plastic thing is just a slinger, not an oil seal. Thr only oil seal is at the diff end. You may just have some oil left in the axle tube. Park it on a side slope for a while tolet it run out, then use it again and see if it leaks some more. If it does, the diff might have to come out again.

Sorted. Chaps took it in am and out pm fixed, they re-done both seals, end of one particular problem.new post anytime soon :lol:
