approx 60k Service cost
« on: July 05, 2009, 06:14:42 PM »

Hello, I have just cut and pasted my 1st post from the introductions part of the forum but as below:

Just a quick word to say hello and introduce myself.

Bought a Jeep Cherokee last night, the 2.8 CRD Limited version 60k on the clock. The service reminder has come up on the display and I was wondering if this is the service that needs the belts changing? and if so what is the damage likely to be to my wallet (UK English £)?

I have owned 3 freelanders in the past, a 1.8 petrol, a 2.0 diesel (Xedi) and a 2.0 TD4 Diesel (ES) and I enjoyed them all, except for the repair bills.....you'd have thought I'd learned my lesson after the 1st one but no, went back for more.

All the best

I bought my 2.8crd auto a year ago, and took it to an independant (ex Jeep engineer) for the 60k service, and helped out (reduces the labour cost).

I don't recall changing any belts, but all the fluids (engine oil, transfer case, front and rear diffs), as well as the auto box oil (a right pain) were changed, as well as the fuel and air filters.

I like the sound of this, I'm quite good hands on tools, being an AC service Tech and ex RN maintenance electrician.
Now comes the hard part ........finding a garage that will go for this idea  :eusa_pray:

Local dealership in Portsmouth want in excess of £500 ..... this includes cambelt change. I'll phone around some of my local garages and see what price they offer up,  after all, we are in a bad economic climate

With a 60K service, plus the belt change at 2-2.5 hours labour on it's own, from a dealerhip, £500 doen't seem that bad nowadays to be honest. It don't take long to rack up a decent bill at £100 an hour.

The Devil's work for sure. I can feel a new slogan coming on...... "REAL JEEPS DON'T HAVE CAMBELTS" (Unless it's a JK of course)

Is there a cambelt in the 2.8crd?  I've checked the service manual and there is no mention of one.
