The clutches on these cars cycle on and off and do wear.. when it is cool the field winding in the electromagnetic clutch can produce enough magnetic force to pull the clutch plate to the flywheel, when it all warms up a bit, the resistance of the field reduces and so does the magnetic field and the clutch plate springs open again, not to run 'till all is cool again.. The clutch plate is spaced using shims where the plat bolts to the input shaft of the compressor (Bolt in the centre) remove the clutch plate and re shim for a smaller gap..
