Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD STEERING
« on: August 30, 2009, 09:39:18 AM »

Hi,

I have an issue with my steering, the system seems to lose full lock as in I can turn the wheel to full lock on the left but then  not to the right. I get about a quarter turn before it stops. This is also intermittent as to which side loses the full lock.

So anyway...

I have checked the linkages all looks fine, I have changed the power steering pump - made no difference, everything is now pointing to the steering box.

How do I remove this thing as cannot find any manual that shows you how to dismantle anything on 2.7 Diesel jeep.

Please help

Thanks

I've come across this before, and it is the steering box at fault. Quite scary when you're driving along, go to make a turn and the Jeep refuses to go round the corner :jpshakehead: It's held in with 3 bolts through the chassis, 1 nut to disconnect the drag link and 2 pipes. Simples.

Cool thanks for that, I have been looking around for steering boxes, am I right in saying that the box is the same across all models 99-04?

Found a couple on ebay although they do state for V8 they look pretty identical to the one on my CRD.

Any thoughts?
