My brother-in-law has a Grand Cherokee and he has just discovered the spider gears are badly chipped and have been causing the bad clunking/knocking he was experiencing.
As these axles seem to be changing hands for silly money on eBay (£200-£300) I recommend rebuilding the limited slip diff with a kit including gears and clutches for around £220 delivered.
He fancies the simplicity of swapping the whole axle but I reckon there is a good chance the replacement might not be any better than the original so it would have to be cheap.
Does anyone know of a rear axle for the Grand Cherokee that is for sale and preferably within 60-70 miles of Manchester.
Does anyone know if the axle ratios are different for the various engine options like they are in the Cherokee XJ? I haven't checked yet but I believe his 4ltr auto will have 3.73 axle gears.
