the 94 xj i now use as family hauler did a made thing i drove to local shop got a bit of steak for tea went baxk to xj and the imobilizer fob would not work and let the jeep start
when i say imobilizer i am saying it has an after market one with a 3pin touch fob no amount of cleaning or messing would get it to work the jeep has a seperate fob [laserline] sfter market alarm for the door stuff and that was working fine i did think the systems worked together but they are not the same brands
anyway very fortunatly panic [tina] found a spare imobilizer fob and brought it over and the jeep worked fine but still the first fob does not switch the imobiliser off
why should that be the fob has no mouving parts no power source so why should it simply fail at a seconds notice
i tell ya dont get none of this crap with a cj

the fob will have a battery in it, and most are prone to water damage and button failure, I repair 3 or 4 a week for local car dealer

Sometimes if there is too bog a delay between switching off the alarm and using the 3 pin fob the system can get a bit of an arse on (To use a technical term)

don't have any experience of this system but would assume its magnetic or induction, both can be affected by moisture and the magnetic can be damaged by strong magnetic forces
