This is getting worse, cleaned solenoid connections and still no difference. It's the solenoid clicking loudly not the starter. Thinking I might have an earthing problem I started poking about and found some wires that were hot :swearmad: ,around the mass of wires that go through the bulkhead to the fuse box. It's starting to look like I might have get an auto sparky out. I'll have another poke around tomorrow night and see what I can find.

if you got power at the solenoid & thats working but you got no starter, could be one of two things...either there is a break in the cable between starter & solenoid or there aint enough juice coming from battery...is the battery fully charged?...are the battery terminals clean & making a good connection?

I had the same problem with my CJ & it turned out to be a semi-flat battery, had enough juice to flick the solenoid but not enough to turn her over......pretty stupid, but we tend to overlook the obvious!

battery was first thing I thought of, tried a booster/starter on it and no different. Because of where it's parked I can't get near it with the xj and leads.
Had a meter on the solinoid whilst my bro held the key on, I've got power from battery, ing and coil wires but nothing on the starter wire/terminal, could the solinoid be FUBAR?

Thanks for all the help, Bubba's right the remote solinoid was the culprit. Shorted it and the engine turned, put another solinoid on off my mates MK1 escort, and she fired straight up. Missed the sound of that V8 lump.
Anyway the torque converter is screaming like a bitch now, so I'd better get on with that. Bugger MOT's run out aswell.
