when it blew up the oil was light brown it looked just like mud

I was also wondering that.
1, Did the engine suck in water through the air intake and hydraulic a piston causing a conrod to exit stage left or, as you seem to be suggesting,
2, the oil was mixed with water prior to the failure and the resulting poor lubrication led to a catastrophic event resulting in a punctured engine block?

Either way it is FOOKED.

If it was option 2 then a snorkel aint goin' to help, you need to check things like filler cap and dipstick etc.

I suspect it was the conrod breaking that caused the damage. Whether it was the hydraulic locking or water in oil im not sure. I drowned it and the engine locked up so after we dragged it out of the puddle we removed the plugs and spat all the water out . Once all the plugs were back in it sounded fine and drove just like normal with no rattles or smoke at all .I was chuffed at this point because i thought i had got away with it.
 After about 50 miles or so on the motorway it went bang I pulled over and saw carnage

but after running 50 miles down the road might think of little end failure to start with as the piston pin could have been bent from the hydrolocking. bent pin rotating and siezing causing a possible secondary failure lower down in the con rod.

is there a hole on the other side of the block ?

con rod,

one let go when i had my diesel, punch a hole through both sides and took out a new starter motor (hrs use) and a good aircon pump. i was more gutted about those than the crap engine
