I'm sure I've read stuff about this either here or elswhere and never as yet got the VOSA answer.....

Is hydro only,  legal for an MOT.... or does there have to be a mechanical linkage (ie hydro assist)


Just that in pricing it up there's not much of a difference in price..... about 10% or less....

its a gray area from what ive seen as farm stuff is full hydro - but i know it can be done as people have done it - better question is how well do you know your mot guy since your really wont be used on the roads just mot'ed for events.

with saying all that - the fact that your going leafs all around i would just hydro assit it

  for an mot there has to be a mechanical linkage in case of a hydro failure so you still retain some leve lof control.

farm stuff is classified as plant basically so never has an mot but a lot of the systems that use public roads have to have  regular checks and maintainance schedules that an outside contractor ( approved by vosa) does on their behalf. also vehicles are limited to a maximum speed of 25mph.

a road going vehicle must be able to be driven and steered in the event of a power steering failure.

blew the power steering on a bently black label, now that was easy to drive with no pas at 3 figures speed

yall can say whatever you want but read all of the books - there is a way around it cause its been done more than once. and a hydro line breaking is no different than steering arm, steering rod, ect ect - there is alot more mechanical that can go wrong than in a hydro system

Apart from the similar costs......... hydro has an advantage when your at max articulation and are trying to steer..........in that it works.
On the other hand...... with mechanical and or hydro assist.. If ya tie rod and drag link have got their panties in a bunch under a massive dose of articulation then things will start to jam and rub ......like my Terraflex high steer cross over system....now gathering dust on the workshop floor....
Could this mean I'm another step nearer to a trailer queen............


On a workshop note rear YJ wrangler HD springs on.... wayback shackles on rear cross member...... and front of rear spring mounts also moved 6" rearwards........ Ruffstuff 14 bolt mounting kit and traction bar parts arrived this pm................. pics will follow.........

Had to rebuild shock mounts to frame as they had rusted and left side had ripped off and had holes in underside of chassis where original shackles went.......... just caught it before it all went very rusty.............

Yeah been down this road - go full hydro I did in the end the tyre size was the deciding factor for me.
