Dead JK After Light Install
« on: November 17, 2010, 08:30:03 PM »

Guys and gals, if anyone can give some help on this I'd really appreciate it. I'm mechanically/auto-electrically challenged so after mount two windshield long range lights, two bumper-mounted driving lights and two reversing lights, I called in our local auto-electric expert to wire them up for me. After a 9 hour day of solid wiring the lights all worked perfectly and the guy had done a really tidy job and off he went. Now today is my better half's birthday so as promised I went out to get some fodder so we could just spend a relaxing evening together...nope...Jeep would not start.... :017: She's turning over just fine but the engine is just not sparking into life. Now this is a Jeep that has started first time every time for 9 months now so I'd say the chances of something being altered for the worst today are pretty high but I have no idea what?

Any ideas? The electrician is coming back tomorrow morning at 7.30am to try to diagnose the problem and fix it as I have meetings starting at 10am. :icon_eek:

If anyone has any ideas of what might be wrong I'll happily pass those on when he arrives. It's an 07 2.8 CRD.

Thanks in advance and great blessings be upon all who help!! :003:

That's what I'm thinking. She's started first time every time for 9 months and the first time she won't is today... :icon_eek:

Get him to disconnect everything he's connected to the original wiring. JKs are very sensitive to being meddled with, accessories should be wired totally independantly unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Well, it seems that something is stopping the signal to power up the fuel pump. When we cut out the ECU and powered up the fuel pump directly from the battery she burst into life but now we can't figure out what's causing the miscommunication. Am waiting for the roadside assistance guy to come out with his computer and diagnose where the fault is and hopefully put it right... :jpshakehead:

Looks like the leccy's damaged the fuel pump wire somewhere but where is still a mystery. Looks like this is gonna take longer to fix than I'd hoped for. :010:

All sorted!!!!! :icon_super: What it was, we'd clipped into a wire either when I drilled the holes in the dash for the switches or when we installed the wires onto the switches. That was causing a dead short and blowing the ruddy fuse. I now have a working JK with serious lights.. :003: :003:

Thanks for all your help, folks!!

Thanks T! The leccy actually did a great and tidy job. I think it might have been me who nicked the wire when I was drilling the holes but I'm admitting to nothing! :003: That said, I've invited him back to sort out the abysmal wiring job that some idiot did on the towbar wiring. He's also going to install the Delta HID fogs in the bumper when they finally show up from the US. If I hit something now on a dark night then it's probably gonna be my fault.. :003:
