2nd ECU fail....disaster! 2003 2.7crd
« on: January 07, 2011, 02:01:04 PM »

Well after only about 2 weeks on the road after the ECU failed....it happened again. Last night driving through traffic car died. Exactly same symptoms as before, tick over but no throttle, instruments all went carzy and seat stopped moving. AA eventaully collected car. Its gone this time to Jeep. The dealer took a look this morning and have confirmed the ECU has failed. The only saving grace is that as the ECU is only 2 weeks old and bought from them they are prepared to replace it under warranty. On checking they have advised that the wiring loom has split and a cable was earthing out which caused the ECU to burn out. They are saying its a common fail point!! its apparently the section that runs under the inlet manifold and abs pump. They are going to sleeve and repair the damaged section.....im praying now that it wont go again as i really cant afford the 800 quid for a new one. Jeep are going to charge 100 pounds for the repair to the wiring. Bargain if its all done and sorted!. i will post an update when done.

Good info Tony.  At least know where to look if others (or mine) go that way.

appeal to chrysler direct about some form of repayment if its a known fault as the dealer has told you.It night make no difference but when I had a coil spring break 2 years after warrranty ran out after a bit of  arguing they replaced both coils gratis.
I mean  that car could have easily gone up in flames as it was a wiring fault and there could have been serious consequences down to poor design /build quality.
