Chime Module and the location of the Fuse Block
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:07:10 AM »

Morning Chaps,

1993 Jeep Cherokee Wagoneer 4.0ltr Petrol straight Six - LHD import from the USA

Here I am with the Chime Module (pink thing about the size of a cigarette packet) in my hand trying to find out where it came from.

According to my manuals, and they both agree!

Haynes repair manual page 12 - 2
Chilton repair manual page  6 - 25

The chime module is located in the main fuse block which in turn is located under the steering column between the brake and the kick panel.

Simple I thought, there was even a photo with the fuse block clearly behind the brake pedal.

I have spent 1 hour with my head in the footwell with tourches and mirrors and its not there.

I mean its just not there.

Is there a difference because mine is a LHD import?

I cant believe I have to dismantle the dash, certainly not according to the manuals.
I obviously looked in the other footwell and nothing there.

Am I going mad?

1993-1995 models are completely different to 96 on.

Hi Mike,

Yes I think you are right and I dont think the photos and diagrams in the manuals are of a 1993.

I trawled the internet and found someone who had the exactly the same problem with the location of the Chime Module.

He was told to look under the steering column right behind the headlight switch and look for two round flashers and its around there.

This differs to the diagrams and photos and I did feel two round flashers for the hazards so I am hopeful my lights and central locking will be working soon.

Cheers

Sorted .....

The Chime module is right under and behind the dash almost behind the headlight switch.

Even if you get your head in the headwell you cant see it!  You need a mirror to see where it goes.
