Cherokee 2.5TD starting problems
« on: July 07, 2011, 05:12:15 PM »

Hi all,

Pretty sure this has been covered before but I'm struggling with the right search term to find info. I've only had my Cherokee for a few weeks and haven't been very lucky, have just had to have a new clutch fitted :icon_sad:.

Truck started first turn of the key up until a few days ago, now takes quite a few turns and pressing of the accelerator. Not sure if it's related but it has a bulb in the fuel line and a Range Rover filter with new fuel lines, previous owner explained this had been fitted during the winter to improve starting along with a new battery, looks a professional job.

My mechanic decided to pump the bulb which resulted in fuel leaking out, doesn't appear to leak now, but hasn't started properly since (could be a coincidence).

All advice greatly appreciated, despite these problems love my Jeep.

Personally, I'd remove that crap. The VM 2.5TD is super fragile, so you don't want to do anything to encourage it
to pop.

there is no bulges etc in the fuel line, as this is used for priming the system on the rangy. the vm has the primer incorperated in the top of the fuel filter. keep the fuel line connections to a minimum and tight and it will stop the fuel pressure leaking away resulting in a hard to start motor. check the spill pipes between the injectors as these are a known leaking point
