M715 power brake and steering upgrade
« on: June 14, 2012, 06:17:34 PM »

Ok, the kaisers brakes needs the M/C plumbing in etc, so it makes sense to me that I skip fitting the stock one supplied and upgrade to the hydroboost unit, which would then allow me to have power brakes and power steering. However that is as far as my brain takes me. I dont want to many upgrades but this is def one, plus it needs doing anyway as I currently have no brakes.

As a reminder its a 6.354 perkins diesel engine.

Does birtys collective knowledge stretch far enuff to tell me what needs to be done and bought in a step by step idiots formula?

M715zone dont seem to helpful on tech probs  :011:

The hydroboost is from here: http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=106056

Much appreciated :greggmo:

Had a google about your Perkins engine....... made the company sucessful.... one of the first high speed diesels and good in original trim for 120bhp and more as a turbo...... used in trucks etc.....

Couldn't find any torque figs but with 5.8 lites of straight 6 its gotta be good.......

Most googling will reveal it being used as a marine engine...... so no brakes.... :hysterical:

The key to a successful hydroboost system is the master cylinder servo/nitrogen canister  assembly and the power steering pump.....various guys in the US do em......but all the good write ups and articles I have googled in the past are for VANCO....who seem to tailor make systems for the end user.....

Have you tried Perkins or any associated forum?

As a side note you'll never have spares or getting it fixed issues...many experts around me ......being 12 miles from Peterborough :icon_twisted:

hadnt thort of a perkins forum tbh

have woken with a lack of enthusiasm so im gonna put it 2gether in stock and then figure out what to do later, will just have to have shit brakes and build up some shoulder and forearm muscle to move 35's with no power steering  :icon_eek:

on the plus side if its a marine engine i can sell it to Bish when i pull it out  :003:

cheers Jez :greggmo:

why not take a look at the  Isuzu  2.8, or 3.1 turbo diesel , they are very easy to wire in and give decent mpg as well, a lot of guys are fitting them into lardies and getting 40+ mpg cheap to source as well

Some alternators for diesels have a built in vacuum pump so you can can run a standard brake booster.

if you drove it more, your arms would man up and get strong enough to spin the wheel  or you can convert it to powering steering and keep ya girly ones malibu.
