Ok, so my Jeep has been fault free (bar the heater core) for two years, the last major problem was one of the idler pulleys spat it's dummy and shredded itself. I bought another one, a crown part, for about £50 from an online dealer.
I now need to get another as the other pulley died in the same fashion this afternoon, also without prior warning. However I think she may have been trying to tell me something as a few days ago she started to get very hot when cruising at 70mph, backed down to under 60mph and all was fine.No odd noises and I was going to take a good look at her today when she spared me the problem of finding fault and spat the idler pulley out. I guess it was jamming up when running at speed and so the belt must have been slipping, so no proper water pump function. (Note to all, check your pulleys)
Anyhow, the point of this post....
Does anyone know the difference between the diesel and petrol idler pulleys? The diesel ones are smooth and not v-socketed for the belt but I guess the petrol versions are the same. The reason for asking is that an idler pulley for a petrol engine is around £25 but the same thing for the VM diesel is around £45. Looking at the Dayco parts application list (see attachment) it lists the same part number for the petrol and diesel XJ and a fair few other brands as well. (see the attached files describing the pulley size and the part number application list)

Does anyone know if they are indeed the same and just incurring some form of enhanced charge because suppliers can or if they are indeed different. Also if anyone has a supplier they would recomend to buy from I would love a recommendation.
