CRD 2.7 Transfer case switch
« on: April 21, 2013, 04:08:58 PM »

Hi,

After many month of fault finding on my GC 2.7 CRD i have managed to address most of the problems by replacing the conductor plate, gearbox electrical connector and gear shift assembly. All the ECU and TCU error codes have cleared except for the transfer case switch. I had a quick look at testing it, but not sure what i'm looking for. From schematics i've traced the sensor feed back to the ECU, and if disconnected from the ECU the resistance between ground and the sensor feed is c. 5M Ohms with no variation if i change between high or low ratios. I assume either the switch has failed or there is a bad earth?

So i guess my questions are - is my assumption correct the resistance is way too high? If so, i'm assuming the circuits integrity has been compromised. I'd like to test this but can't find where the sensor is grounded. I thought it may use the sensor body, but the schematic shows pins to ground and ECU and i think it routes the ground via connector C109 - which i've not been able to find. Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Hi Emboli

I recently replaced my gear selector assy - I thought the Tx switch was on the assy!

Did you replace the wiring loom when changing the selector?

Other than the above, I have no further ideas!

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply - the Transfer case position sensor sits on top of the transfer case, and routes back to the ECU. Major pain to tap in to the signal as there's something like 60 pins on the connection! Going to try and do some more on it this weekend, looks like i'll have to drop the transfercase to get to the sensor unless anyone has some good ideas (i did read a post for an older jeep cherokee where they could access the sensor via the floor pan)/

A few years ago had my gearbox ECU replaced on the same vehicle, took a lot of finding the fault, but will try and contact the auto tech who found the fault as it was jusyt a small voltage or something as far as can recall causing the problem .

So, it looks like the transfer case position sensor has packed up on my  2.7 CRD - But i've not been able to locate one. Any ideas? I can ship from the US, but I always end up getting stung for import duty or orders never turn up, so a little reluctant to order from over seas.
