Home made half doors
« on: July 27, 2013, 11:29:06 AM »

I made these from a pair of wrangler full size doors, i removed the glass and took a cutting disc to them, folded some new top sections and spot welded them in. I relocated the door lock mechanisms on the inside, and machined up some new door strikers, all that remains to do for now is paint them and make some new door cards :023: later im gonna make some slide in perspex windows for the tops, havent decided how yet.

Think there was a trick with the locking mech of swapping sides,to get correct positioning.....

Been there, done that....... :003:

I did indeed do Si's doors, and it worked so well I then did mine too

We did swap the door handles for some reason, just can't remember why :jpshakehead:
IIRC they worked better like that.
I made them so the upper window section from my Bestop soft doors slotted in, they've been like this for several years now and they've worked ok. They don't seal very well, but they don't seem to leak or flap about on the motorway.
I need to fabricate and fit a pair of new doorskins now though, trail rash :icon_super:. I may fit some different handles too as the standard YJ ones are falling apart, and re do the doorcards which are the cut down originals.
One of the best mods I've done to my Jeep, so much more visibility off road.

Thanks for showing the pics mate youve given me an idea  :023: ive got a pair of full soft doors in the shed, gonna dig em out and see if i can cut them down for door tops  :017:
I noticed mine are cut down to the body line and yours still retain that feature, you also have outside door handles, i need to look into that as i cant lock them yet.
