Take the clocks out and remove the metal plate behind it to show the I mobilizer unit and bypass the relay output.

I thought it was built in to the ecu and a unit from the states was the only answer or get the keys and ecu paired at a dealers

The UK immobiliser was made and retrofitted by a UK company. Ill dig out the label and post a pic

The newer ones with the grey keys have the Siemens SKIS system that is linked to the ECU

The 97 TJ had the separate 2-button fob instead of an active transponder.

The fob and key on my ZJ looks exactly like that one and it's been giving me problems switching the immobiliser off (as per my other thread).

Is it likely to be the same setup?

I'd happily remove/bypass the immobiliser.

If you get this sorted let us know. There is a few 97 TJ on the market here with immobiliser issues where the owners can't get it sorted and neither can JEEP. I could pick up something cheap if I think I could fix it.

I think they stopped using that immobiliser in the TJ after 97 as it was causing a lot of issues.

Its not that simple. Its now at the dealer waiting to have the new immobiliser programmed to the ecu. Only way round it is a usa ecu with the immobiliser not activated.

Like Donk said. The only way to fix a '97 is to repair it properly with a replacement module or fit another PCM without anti-theft enabled. On a ZG I believe you can remove it by removing the immobiliser module installed above the body control module, removing the jumper harness between the immobiliser module and the BCM, reconnecting the original wiring to the BCM, and reconnecting the cut wiring for the starter. No guarantees though.

There is another option, but I think it may require the immobiliser unit to go to May & Schofield as it has to be programmed. A touch key can be piggybacked onto the immobiliser by M&S so if the key fob doesn't work the touch key can be used.

This one had the pickup for the touch key fitted in the glove box, but as is with buying used it didn't come with a touch key

Might be worth a call to M&S to see if a replacement touch key can be supplied.
