74 jeep cj5 rear axle shims
« on: March 13, 2014, 07:09:16 PM »

Hi all, I'm in the process of installing a 4" lift in my 74 cj5, I used 2.5" wide springs and have the back done, the drive shaft angle is quite severe at the moment, the kit came with a transfer case drop kit with spacers width of 1.25". I wouldn't say this will be enough and was thinking I will need shims for the rear axle, I was just wondering what deg I should get, 6 deg seems to be the norm from a few searches that I seen. I know everyone says to use steel ones so I will. Also anyone know of a supplier in the UK

Unless you have a CV double cardan joint at the transfer case end in which case the diff and prop should be in a straight line pointing to the tc and the CV joint take care of the rest.......

BUT

If you have normal as it came from the factory prop shaft UJs then the angles should be equal at the prop and at the TC........ Think of it as a flattened 'Z'

I have a 2" procomp kit on my 74 cj5..  didn't need shims for that... Try Llama 4x4 for a kit!
