Does anybody know where i can buy a 2.5 lift kit for the 7, what have you got on yours, where did you get it, whats the ride like etc.......... i was thinking rubicon express but theres nothing on the website and it dosent seem to have been updated since 2008  can i get skyjacker over here ?

Rough country 4" on mine as it was a complete kit and well priced - folk seem to hate RC tho - shipped via 4wd.com - shipping was the most pain tho so someone like Llama would prob b cheaper

Tis just that RC can give a hard ride, just as Pro Comp got a bad rap for that.....

Rubicon Express does a great 2.5" lift......had one on the YJ about 12 years ago and it flexed very well.....

Old Man Emu is also well thought of for good flex and good ride quality ....both are available as full kits.......

RE kits were good, still think they are since they got bought out a couple of years ago.

rough country to be honest rough explains alot, had them on my cherokee and they got binned asap. procomp are too hard and always have been. skyjacker are middle the road, might be worth loking at opinions on the stateside forums.

Cheers guys, from what i ve read so far pro comp and rough country are a hard ride, been doing some reading and it looks like its gonna be between re, ome and bds all of these have good flex and decent road manners, gonna do some more reading

from what i have read flex with leaf springs is the way forward, stiff leaves normally ends up with a pain in the arse

I have a procomp kit on my 5 and it flexes like hell and ain't bad on the road.. But it's only a 2.5" kit if I remember rightly.

Hmmm... thats interesting, have you got a v8 in the 5, do you have a winch and hd bumper, just tryin to get an idea of what sort of weight your carrying

A new set of springs with a single 'helper leaf' will give you an inch of suspension lift over new stock and some new body mounts with simple half inch spacers will give you another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch on what you have now.
You wont have compromised your driveshaft angles and it probably wont cost as much either, but thats just my opinion!

42 Skyjacker on mine, but I went for the YJ kit, wider front spring and pushes the front axle an inch forward, just use CJ rear or YJ front hangers, weld the front X member and bolt the hangers through were the rivet was (before you drilled it out)
Ride is brilliant, and so is the flex, AMC 360 and winch no issue.

Cheers will, do the yj rear springs bolt straight on then ? certainly sounds like a good idea especially with the wider front springs, the other bonus is that the yj lift kits seem to be cheaper than the cj kits  so yours is a 4 inch lift ?

Yes 4", back springs are exactly the same as far as fitting, front springs are wider, so more stable, and  a bit longer, US forums cover this well, and basically the front springs fit the rear mounts the same, at the front you need to use either front YJ hangers, or rear CJ as they are the same width. benefit here already is losing the weak CJ hangers with the extra hole. If you look at were the front hangers are mounted on the CJ, you need to move one hole forward, this means drilling out the rivet in the chassis X-member (weld the joint first so it can not move) and then the YJ hanger bolts here, make up a filler for the back hole. Standard bumper is then a bit tight, so grind some off that, of course you need matching shackle, but you need longer anyway to match the movement in the spring, and the spring plates the U bolts go through need widening, I think Yj ones will fit but check on that?

This set-up moves the front axle forward by about an inch, but not so far as the prop will need changing, so benifit there with slightly longer wheel base and better approach angle.

The other thing is lower profile spring pack, less leaves than what I had before, with a 2.5 kit of unknown origin. I had added another inch in the shackles. this all ended very tired after many years , and with a lot of bump steer, the new set up is vastly better , a bit of shimming sorted out the castor angle , and I custom built the steering but that is a different story.

Oh,... and I fitted this when I had the 4.2 in, great then and not noticed any difference with the 360. Also the YJ kit came with angled wedges for the rear springs to point the diff up to keep a better angle on the pinion/prop, stops most of the vibration, on a CJ7.
 Don't forget , if you go 4", there may be othe issues you will run into, like the steering and props, not to mention the 33" tyres you will fit, the gearing you will want to change the brake upgrades you will have to do, the V8 and transmission upgrades, the cooling issues............

I bought and used fwd  four wheel drive hardwares own brand lift kits and found them very good
not a named or trendy brand but worked so well they are still on those jeeps almost a decade later
