Cherokee scan code reader
« on: January 08, 2017, 03:42:35 PM »

Hi
Can anybody tell me what type of code reader I need for the 1999 xj Cherokee diesel, don't want to pay for a dealer to do it if I can check things out cheaply myself.
What's recommended, seem to be plenty on eBay but not sure what's required??

A small word of caution, if I may. As stated, there are some on Ebay which could do the job....BUT....read the fine print first because a lot of them, despite the blurb stating they are good for use with vehicles built after a certain date (usually 1996) most of them only work properly with petrol cars after 2001 and diesels after 2004...some of them can turn off warning lights on earlier models, but little else.

I got caught out twice last year...they now gather dust on the shelf and they weren't particularly cheap!  :banghead:

OBD2 will not get you any engine related info.

There is a separate Bosch unit for the engine - so Jeep dealer, or perhaps some Bosch centres
