TJ wheels and tires question
«

one for the hive mind, I am looking at new tires, and TBH this is 70% looks 30% performance.
My problem is a lot of conflicting info, so a few questions
how big can I go without a lift?
are Puck lifts OK/safe?
how much effect does wheel offset have?
if I go for 285/75r16 (these are just under 33") what are the min mods needed?

I ran 265/75R16 on a 2" SkyJacker lift kit with stock wheels and flares. Tyre tread was covered and the Jeep worked well off-road.
The tyres were fitted a few days before the lift and from what I remember it was driveable on the street. Didn't try it off-road with the 265 tyres without the lift.
The 235/75R16 is fine with no lift on stock wheels.

I ran 33 x 12.5 x 15 tyres on 15 x 8 wheels with 4" backspacing for a few weeks before lifting my TJ. Anything more than the smallest of bumps or any flex could result in rubbing.
Typically you would need 3-4 inches of lift to run 33s on a TJ, and may need to add a washer or two to the steering stop bolts if there's any rubbing at full lock.
