Distributor help.
« on: June 18, 2006, 04:37:18 PM »

I noticed the leads on my V8 (AMC 5.9L) were 180 degrees out of position on the distributor. I put them back where they should be according to the TSM, but now of course i can't start or run. Its been suggested that a PO has taken the distributor out and put it back in without marking where the rotor was and ended up moving the leads to match instead.

I'd like to put the whole thing back properly, as it should be. Any pointers in finding out how to get the rotor gears back in the right place, when you don't know where they were?

:) i had the same problem some time ago with my v8
i think i did it by removing the dissy , turn the engine by hand with number one plug removed so you can find TDC top dead center , stick a ty-wrap down number one plug hole ( a long one),you should be able to feel if the piston is at the top .

is the v8 in the yj ?

Huge freaking show weren't it?   They closed the site to campers about noon Saturday as they were full. Sunday was even busier apparently. About 3000 cars on show. I also saw the lifted XJ, Gary Coopers. Another nice piece of kit.
