Remote locking fob
«

Does anyone know a source for the electronic remotes for central locking.
I have a 51 plate KJ, but only one key/fob combo. This makes me nervous, because I lose things.
I've spoken to two nearby Jeep dealers and they want £135 or £150 for spare key and fob and coding it to the car!
That's in pounds!
Strewth.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Just a thought try ringing my dealer on 01332 342141. ask for Terry to see if any better deal. Always worth a try. Mention the club as well

Hi glyno, was your eBay fob a programmable one - I've seen them for sale on there, but it makes me nervous that I'd end up not able to get into the jeep or something.

The fob has to be the correct one for the model and year of jeep. Yours is the peanut shaped one with lock/unlock plus open rear window. Don't buy one from US Ebay, they don't work on European models. The Jeep has to be programmed with the dealer's diagnostic equipment to accept the replacement remote.
Remember that the ignition key also has a transponder chip embedded in it, and the Jeep has to be programmed to recognise this or it won't start.

Taken the plunge. Ordered both key and remote fob from the local stealership.
£89
Plus "fitting". When they do all their electronics witchcraft to make all the bits friends with the KJ.
At least they're local...

Went to the stealership yesterday - it's one of those that was a Mercedes garage, but now they
also do jeep
.
Sat there for a hour, feeling like a right chancer (in a Merc showroom), reading mags full of ads for things I could never afford, before they admitted that HQ had sent the wrong key and it didn't fit.
Toss
But I did get to read brochures on the Commander...

I thought the Commander looked good actually:
Long and square, with seating for the whole family.
Like a narrowboat.

They've got a replacement key in now and they want to have another try tomorrow.
Bless 'em!
If I'd paid Merc money for this level of hopelessness...
