Track-bar material
« on: March 13, 2007, 07:44:22 PM »

What tubing have people used or would recommend for a track-bar on an XJ that won't need to be replaced in 6 months time?

I have a metal supplier but he only understands metric, so as a start I was thinking 30-35mm diameter, 6mm thick as that is pretty close to 1.25" / 0.250" that a lot of the Yanks go for.

Also, how would you incorporate the adjustable threaded section? I'm thinking small RE flex-joint at the body end and poly bushing at the axle.

Any thoughts otherwise or advice on building one?

TIA, James.

Thanks Peter, that'd be good. I've never heard bad things about his kits so it seems a good way to start.

I'll have a look on the web at the standard adjustables that are around and see if I can find the strongest way to incorporate the adjustment thread.

Thanks Daggie, I'm going to put in a small RE superflex joint I think, just because I like being able to re-build them.

I'm going to raise the axle end mount, can you take a pic of your one for me?

Thanks

Thanks Greggmo. I might need your welding skills on a couple of little projects I have in mind, I'll get all the parts and material in and give you a shout with some liquid currency.

right..........spoke with adam at clayton he told me the over axle bar is 11/2 by 120 wall dom tubing is used, hope that helps.

i don't believe in the rose joints either, the americans have come up with a safety washer now that must be used on all rose joints.

tre for me every time..............
and johnny joints are the best in my opinion................

something to think about.
