Fitting Glass

How hard is fitting a window panel? I need to replace the rear quarter panel.

Autoglass have just quoted £504, local Jeep dealer can supply a new piece of glass for 100quid (or I can get one for 40quid salvage). I've been waiting for 8days for a repair under insurance and it still isn't done.

It's a pain in the ass and it takes two people but it is do able.

You need to fit the rubber to the glass, generously lubricate it  :roll:

I would check what the Autoglass would charge for installation only, and  you supply the  glass.  and if not them ........there has to be an autoglass place that still like the tax free 20 quid notes

40 for the scap yard glass.  2 or 3   20 quid noted to the nice Autoglass dude.....   and still room left in the budget for a drink to celebrate...

can't you claim through the car insurance under the windscreen cover and pay the £50 excess ?

I've been waiting since last Monday for the repair to be done under insurance. My insurance company will only cover the repair through RAC Windscreens, I've been calling the RAC every day, they've said that the glass will be with them in 24hrs, 10 days later they still don't have it and have said today they don't know when it will be available. I can get the glass through Jeep in 24hrs.

RAC have really been crap, nobody is interested.

Yep I've not had great experiences with RAC: When I 1st broke the screen they fixed it (Dudley branch), when I got it back you could see daylight through the side seals, even worse the ignition lock was partly broke (eg they pulled the key out without ejecting it). I then took it to the Worcester branch you had it in for 5 days to sort the screen!
Recently Autoglass took 3 atempts to replace the screen; couldn't seal it! I'm not a picky customer but when water runs down the inside of the glass in a stream you know theres a prob!
 Neither company would come out to do it as they reckoned the flat screen made it hard to fit!
Good luck! You need to go through insurance as their costly items!
