Hi,

I have a 1996 Cherokee 4.0 (leaf sprung rear) which was jacked up by the previous owner by about 2.5 inches and I think longer travel shocks.

Im currently thinking of raising the rear a further 2 inches giving a total lift of 4.5 inches.

At what point do I need to worry about extending the brake lines to the rear?

Is this easy to do and at what sorta cost?

I've been up to about 2 inches on standard brake lines. I then felt it best to fit a rear rubber brakeline from a YJ Wrangler (a bit longer) when going to 3" (and subsequently up to 4"). Now I'm up around 5.5 - 6" I've fitted an even longer stainless braided version (Tomken, from Quadratec).

For 4.5" I would go straight for a lengthy stainless rear line, it only cost me $30 or so (plus shipping and tax but part of a bigger order). There's no real harm in it being too long and potentially lethal consequences if it's too short and comes apart when offroading.

You could flex the Jeep and measure what is needed but I'm almost 100% certain the stock line won't be long enough.

My 4.5" kit came with these.
They do the job and are cheap (just bend some plate yourself). The Z bracket is for the rear. For more lift, get longer lines for sure.

Oh, and going above 3.5", you will (more than likely) need a transfer case drop or an SYE. And bigger degree shims.

my 3.5" lift from RE came with a rear brake line extension. so 3" and above would be safe to say you will need one, how long will then be the question next
