XJ Self Servicing
« on: February 20, 2008, 02:55:36 PM »

Would like to get my hands dirty and give the XJ a good servicing.  Its a 99 4.0 Ltd.

What points underneath should I keep greased up and with what?

I've seen haynes manuals for it but they only go up to 95.

Did the rear box and pipe last weekend.  Was quite surprised to find that rather than replace the whole thing which cost me £50, someone had taken the time to take off the box and pipe.  Cut a metal square, shape it to the contour of the box and weld metal square to box and then re-fit.  :)

Was a bugger to come off the CAT so had to dremel it off.  Had a bit of a fiddle getting the pipe and CAT back in as one so removed the rear tow hitch and bracing bar.  Not going to tow anything and shaved a reasonable 30KG off the weight (should help the MPG by 0.001) :D

The 95 manual will be fine for servicing. The only real difference mechanically as far as servicing goes is that a 99 has no LSD, whereas a 95 does.
