I think that if we divided by year, we'd end up with three messes instead of one.

there is one other way to go,

fixed windscreen or folding windscreen,

two very clear types of jeep and easy to workout where your jeep belongs

Interesting thought, though the fixed windscreen forum would be a mess, and noobs might not know what the hell we're on about.

We try to be as friendly as possible, which means an easy to use forum. Having forums labelled the same as the badge on your car is probably friendliest.

We could do a massive list of vehicles, but the more frangmented it gets, the less chance of people in the know reading and answering the problem.

When your forum has 20000 members, it may not be an issue as loads of expert will read each forum, but on here, the far fewer experts may take to only reading the forum that they're interested in, thus skipping questions they may well know the answers to.

Going to phpbb3 would fix this.

I know its nowt to do with me but upgrading to phpBB3 is the first thing to do. That enables sub forums to be created easily and means the forum coding is more secure.

Tim's job keeping the site running will be made much easier. Add to that. it offers us as users far more flexibility with regard to keeping track of new posts. Cookie sessions and all that.

phpBB3 also does several things better than phpBB2, a good example is the email addresses of users are kept encrypted unlike the phpbb2 version. Creating permanent external links is also possible direct from the forum itself. Updating is much easier too.

Sorry I'm waffling on. Suffice to say upgrade to phpBB3. Its good  8-)

How about splitting the For Sale & Wanted section, most annoying seeing a topic title for a bit you are after only to find its someone else asking for the same thing

There's a lot of overlap in the tech issues of YJ, XJ, TJ, ZJ/G, WJ/G - engines, axles, gearboxes, wheels / tyres, brakes etc. Doesn't splitting the forums actually make it more tricky to find or help with issues??

Just my initial thought on the divided tech forums, maybe I'll get used to it

I'm having the same thoughts. We need to figure it out quick as moving a load of posts is a nightmare, and at the minute there's just a few.

bulk moving is easy in phpbb3, just delete the forum and the option appears to move all posts to a new forum

Why is it on most forums, the next topic link is at the top of the page

It should be below / next to the last entry, instead of needing to scroll to the top of the page (I know pressing the 'home' button makes it quicker).  It would be better if I could save time and move straight onto the next post.

am i misunderstanding, are u planning to split the tech into parts (ie gearbox, wheels etc) instead of vehicles? that dont make sense to me, admittedly i can never answer any tech questions but keepin it per vehicle seems the most logical to me, u can still search within the whole thread

OK, modified the view post template so you can do it from the top and bottom of the screen.
