Rear lower control arm problem
« on: August 31, 2008, 01:23:52 PM »

Whilst under my Jeep greasing various bits for next weekend, I noticed this...

I presume it happened whilst I was at Tuff Terrains.

How do I get it reconnected?  Or will I need a new part?  I don't understand how it could have happened, since the upper arm is still connected at both ends.

I'm not sure if the vehicle is safe to drive on the road (advice appreciated), in which case I will have to come to Cheapfest in my other Jeep (pity it is not yet ready for offroading).

yes you need a new part and no it's most defiantly not safe!!!!
normally the bracket breaks off the axle.......seen something similar before.

are you long arm?

would be the ideal time to triangulate the rear if you are.

My first thought was to remove the arm and screw/slot the 2 parts together, but since the bolts are currently unmovable, I will keep applying the penetrating oil, and try again in a couple of weeks.  Failing that, it's a 45 mile drive to my Jeep mechanic.  :smt023

Managed to remove the bolt through the lower bush.  The bush is stuck sold, even after soaking in wd40 type stuff and being greased.

Putting the 2 parts together, and it is loose.  Replacing the bolt through the bush, and the lower part does not butt upto the central nut.  If I were to get it welded, I would somehow have to move / rotate the axle to fit it.  I will probably have this problem if I purchased some new arms.

Is it the upper or lower rear control arm?  I am assuming upper since it attaches to the top of the axle, even though I titled this topic lower.

Looking on 4wd.com, they sell 3  different makes, ranging from $230 to $285, but they don't mention if suitable for a lifted Jeep.  How do I tell if they will work with 4.5" suspension and 1" body lift?  Any other suppliers to look at?

Received the new control arms Thursday.  The RM admin fee was nearly as much as the vat

Replaced the broken one this morning, so hopefully I am ready for Seven Sisters.

£125 delivered for a pair of control arms purchased from USA through Ebay.  At least I now have a spare one in case the other breaks.
