Hi,
I've a 2000 Cherokee 2.5td which generally very pleased with apart from when the keys are in the ignition the incessant chiming everytime you open the door, don't put your belt on, etc is very irritating. I spend a lot of time driving off road in my job and often need to hop in and out to open gates, talk to contractors, etc. Is there a sensible/easy/non bodgy way to disconnect the chime for seat belts and doors.

i did development on daewoo cars in the 90's and the chimes were a nightmare as most of the work involved the doors to be open so we just found the source of the sound and stopped it (normally a small speaker)

mines a 95 cherry and theres a little buzzer under the dash I just unplugged mine

The key-in switch has a light blue wire between the switch and the instrument cluster. There is a black/light blue wire that connects to the drivers door jamb switch. The wires are spliced and the same colour wires also connect either side of the headlamp switch. The spices are behind the dash within the wiring looms.

Lights on or key in will cause the chimes when the door is opened. You can cut either wire colour, either side of the respective switch to disable key in or headlamp on reminder, or trace the wire to the splices and just made one cut that would disable both functions.

If you disable the headlamp function make sure you switch the lights off every time you leave the Jeep or you'll risk a flat battery on return.

EDIT: on further study of the wiring diagrams the drivers door jamb switch has three wires connected to it. It might be easier to find the wires at the back of that switch and cut the black/light blue wire if you want to disable both functions.

Cheers for the answers. I removed the drivers door switch a cut the blue/black wire and no more chimes when I open the door :-D . FYI I took out a switch on a back door and it doesn't have the blue/black wire. As mentioned it no longer chimes when the lights are left on - a price worth paying? (or will I regert that one dark night miles from anywhere )

Glad it's sorted for you. All you have to do now is SWITCH THE DAMN LIGHTS OFF!
