Hi,

New to the forum.

I have recently purchased a 52 Grand Cherokee CRD limited and so far loving it to bits, other than the arguments between the missus and I over who's driving.

Only issue I have is that I don't seem to be able to get the heating to work, blows cold all the time. Never noticed it to be honest unil now its getting cold. The seats keep your backside warm, but the toes get frostbite.

Any ideas will be appreciated. Sorry if this has been asked before.

Just a guess. Mike will know more. The heating/cooling system uses actuated doors to direct the hot and cold air. They have a tendancy to break. It's possible that the one that directs hot from the heater matrix has broke.

Know nowt about modern stuff but in old junk like I run constant cold air is due to no or insufficent water in rad.
Or maybees the valve that lets hot water into the heater matrix is jammed on the cold setting.
Is it digital temperature control or just an old fashioned knob/lever???

its a digital display with the split climate control

If you want a second mortgage, yes. As I remember, and if it IS the problem it's a big job. (I'm not trying to scare you, BTW :lol:

took out an extended waranty thing when I bought it covering me for all repairs up to £1k other than wear and tear.

May be time to test it then :-(

or anyone know where I can get thick thermal socks :lol:

to replace/repair the doors on the heater unit requires the dash to be removed which if done by the stealership will cost you what seems to be a mortgage if IRC

sounding like an expensive start to my ownership, will defo be digging out the warranty insurance cover thingy.

The air blend doors have probably broken, it's a common failure. You have to remove one or two bits of trim till your Jeep looks like this....

A dealer will charge at least a grand.

Is there any way to tell if it’s the doors or not without taking the thing to bits.

I only ask as I had the same problem on an old van and it turned out to be an air lock. It only needed burping.

If the heater hoses going in and out of the bulkhead are both hot, there is no airlock. Do this after a good long drive, the CRD takes a long time to warm up properly.

If you purchaced from a dealer within the last 3 months it's his problem under the "Sale of Goods Act" so, if that is the situation, get him to sort it outfor you. If not you can always talk nicely to him so he gets one of his tame cronies to do the repair and your warranty helps offset some of the cost.

never done a dash like that to fix problems, i juat made up 4 long bolts with the correct thread so the whole dash could be slid back without total removal from the car. front seats needed to be removed first. the gearshift is easier to remove than to line a full dash back into the fire wall.

just for reference a jag 350 (the big ally one) the dash can be removed in less than two hours, no dealer is going to tell you that

Nah. This ain't no limey Jagwar. The whole lot has to come out to access this....

Which then has to be removed and dismantled.

To do it properly an experienced Jeep person could do it in 3-4 hours, but you need help to get the dash assembly in and out without damaging anything as it's so big and heavy.

I have a 2002 GC. If it's like mine the climate control has it's own self diagnosis mode and list of fault codes.

To access this (with the engine running i think) press and hold in both the a/c and recirc buttons. With these held in rotate the left hand temp control knob 1 notch clockwise. Any fault codes should appear in the right hand portion of the digital display.

There is a very helpful website that people may or may not be aware of. I can post a link here if admin are OK with it? Don't want to get in trouble :-)

I had just the same problem on my 1999 GC ,passenger side blowing cold all the time ,suggested a pair of gloves and a throw for the wifes legs , but ended up keeping the piece and paying Listers Jeep in Lincoln £800 to fix it. :roll:

Fear not.....it`s a fault on most if not all Grand Jeeps I have one the same. Frightening all these dash out replys aint they but don`t let it frighten you. Go to ebay in USA or worlwide search section type in " blend door Grand Jeep " there are many sellers who will advise first how to get the error codes up then the solution when you have the codes. The solution is a kit you can fit or have a mechanic do it. There`s loads of success story feedback from all over the world. It`ll cost around £80 for the kit if it`s the most common fault inc shipping

The wonder of the internet to solve problems that could oterwise be very expensive.

My Dad had this problem on his. It's something to do with the flaps for the Dual Zone climate control. We didn't fancy paying around a grand to get it fixed and we found a kit online that we fitted. It sorted it out, but means that the passenger zone climate control doesn't work. As Dual Zone climate control is such a useless feature, we weren't too bothered.

I'll see if I can dig out where he got the kit from.
