Hi - been doing some surfing on EBay and found some cheapie winches - 9000lb pull EPS jobbies. Anyone used these? For £200 and something they seem suspiciously cheap.... :?

Talk to Dr Mike. He just got something similar off "the bay".

I just purchased a 9500 lb Loadsure winch from "ndrive" on Ebay for £279 + carriage. Looks to be good quality, has 5.5hp motor (some cheaper ones are 3.6hp) It comes with roller fairlead, remote, all cables and mounting bolts and comprehensive instructions and parts lists.
Purchased on sunday night, arrived 8.30 am Tuesday.
Haven't used it in anger yet, apart from dragging the XJ across the yard to tension the cable, but will get it's first outing tomorrow at Minestead Manor.
Will post further developments when I've used it a bit, but at that price I had to give it a go, especially as it's bright orange. Matches my golden locks don't you know...

Cheapie wnch update..........
So far so good. Hauled myself and several other Jeeps out of some sticky situations yesterday with no probs. Motor runs nice and cool and pulls well even when the cable drum is almost full. Speed not bad either although obviously not on par with something like an 8274. Only time will tell how durable it is compared with more expensive models so will post again with further developments. Now saving for a plasma rope as I'm finding steel cable is a bit of a pain in the Cooper's.
KD. The mounting bolted straight onto the XJ using all existing holes so no drilling required. Then used the ends of my trashed front bumper to make bumperettes and a lick of fresh paint to finish the job. I am getting an 8 mm steel plate made up to reinforce the area where the winch bolts to it as it does flex to a certain degree under load, which could cause stress cracks with time. Have uploaded pics to my gallery.
