not mine thankgod!!!
just pulled it out of a friends tj to do the clutch, an giving the bell housing a clean noticed the input shaft has what i'd call a fare bit of up an down movement on it.
as far as im aware there shouldn't be any movement or only very slight.

the oils an avarage sortof clean.

is it possible to pull out the input shaft, re bearing it an wang it back in or is it a full box strip down an replace all bearings??? ive got the big workshop manual but i can't tell, an ive not played with one of these box's yet.

its not mine so not bothered on cost but ill be doing the job.

another thing, is the cost of rebilding it gonna out weigh the cost of a good second hand unit, or exchange.

if they're available???

The pilot bearing in the end of the crank supports the end of the first motion shaft. Without this it will move around.

ah right, the one's ive delt with befor have had very little movement on them, an when they did, it was a sign that the front bearing was going.

altho thinking about it they're all preloaded taper rollers ive worked with, where as this isnt its just ball bearing bearings.

so does that alow for the themovement?

I would say grasp the shaft at the gearbox end and check for sideways movement with the clutch end supported so it doesn't move. It would wail it's tits off if the bearings were really shagged. Otherwise if the gearbox was quiet and working properly leave it alone.
