Remote trouble
« on: August 03, 2005, 08:13:02 AM »

OK peeps here goes.

I have three remotes for the XJ (1997 Facelift). One on the main key ring, spare with spare key & another I leave in the car for a spare. All are coded to the car.

On Monday I picked up the spare key by accident to move the car, fob didn't unlock car so used key but the security light / facility was not de-activated. Used spare fob in car but had to lock the car & then unlock to start it.

Every time since, you have to press the lock button then the unlock button to enter / start the car.

Got some spare batteries & used them in the spare key / fob but no use. Can a fob just die or what ?

Anyway, any ideas or is it auto electrician / dealer time ?

Dunno if it helps but on my ZJ you have to unlock the the car with the fob while its in the ignition before it will start!
So its turn ignition on, unlock car via fob, disarm security, hit clutch, turn key, and start.

Yes mate, I have to do that if I have opened the car & then left it more than 45 secs or so because it re-arms if you have not started it in that time.

Dunno why its started dicking about now though

Dont know if its the same on the system you,ve got,as mine is an aftermarket cat 1,but when i went to move my XJ the weekend,i found that although the fob was working ok it didnt turn off alarm s i couldnt start it or do anything with it so had to disconnect battery whilst i fetched the alarm book for all the codes.Tried over ride but still didnt work, but then i noticed a part about synchronising the fob to the alarm so tried that and it worked,so i was wondering is that as you hadnt used spare for a while it might need synchronising in the same way as mine did.Must be worth a try :?  :?  :?

Well, after much buggering about, it would appear the XJ got itself a bit confused & needed unscrambling.

A good half an hour being plugged in to varoius electronics & stuff & we are now sorted.

I thought you could have 4 remotes syncronised to the car but apparently mine will only allow 2 at a time.

Best of all, NO CHARGE for it to be sorted by City & County, hows that for customer service
