Hi all i have done a search but cant find anything for my query. I have a 97 4.0 ZJ. It is used ainly to get to horses, across fields, tow chain harrows and go across the occasional green lane. I also tow a trailer and travel alot of motorway miles. Due to towing i dont want to raise the GC but want to know the largest tyres i can fit to the standard rims and which A/T is best, i have a good price for General Grabber A/T 2 but that is 225/70x16. Any advice would be much appreciated.

i'm running 225/75/16 on my 97 GC without any issues but the tyres are slightly higher. if you need to maintain tow point heights bigger tyres will lift the jeep a little. to have a look at the difference in circumference google 'tyre size calculator' and there are loads available.

Arlo's thoughts on tires:

* I ran 31" AT's (245/75-16 Big-O BigFoot AT's) w/o any lift and rubbed on the plastic wheel well lining when backing up and my wheels turned.
* Running 245/75-16's with a more aggressive tire (like an MT) will result in more meaningful tire rub
* Running a 31" tire w/o a lift and disconnecting your swaybar will mean a lot more rubbing then if you leave the swaybar connected.
* When I moved up to a 2.5" BB from KOR (Kevins Offroad) and kept my 245/75-16 AT's I didn't have any rubbing. This is a good size tire for this lift. An alternative is an 265/70-16 - slightly wider tire.
* When I moved up to 5" of lift and 32" MT/R's (265/75-16) I had to trim about 2" from both my front bumper cover (the plastic) and the bumper itself (the metal hid behind the plastic wheel lining which was also removed).

If you don't plan on trimming much:

* Less then a 3.5" lift and stick with 31's.
* 3.5" or more, 32" tires.
* 5" or more, 33" tires.

If you're towing something heavy stick to standard size.

Have a look at 235-70-16s, standard landy size so more options, wouldn't go any bigger tho

235 75 15s are the way...

I've had 255\70r15's on with no rubbing problems, and no noticeable effect on gearing.

It's the stock isuzu / frontera size so loads about cheap.
