Help with Headlight unit Genuine part is upside down
« on: February 09, 2009, 03:40:27 PM »

Need Help
Got a old style 2001 TD 2.5 60th anniversary , the passenger side headlight is corroded ,
The spare part the main dealer has suplied has the locating lugs in wrong place ( if anyone understands).
I need them about 3/4 way up on radiator side and on middle of road side
but genuine Valeo from dealers has them opposite way round , eg 3/4 way up on roadside :-(

They can be bought cheaply from Mansfield 4x4 and they are the same Valeo items (except they fit!)

take it back to them under the sales of goods act. It doesn't fit the vehicle and hence under your rights, you have the right to your mney back or a replacement.Mention Trading standards and possible complaint to them. see where it goes from there

Reading it again, it seems that if the headlight is a mirror image of what you need, they supplied the wrong side!

What is the part number they supplied? It will be on the reciept - an eight digit number starting with 55 and ending AE, eg 55xxxxxxAE

Your local dealer is a retard. How they hell can they be the same, the beams have to point in different directions.

Oh, welcome to the club

Try ebay. Search for "cherokee breaking", then email the vendors to see if they got one, or "cherokee headlamp". You'll get lots of Grand Cherokee lamps though too.

I think they are actually the same both sides, at least on my 98 XJ they are.

Still sound retarded though.

UK headlamps are not handed they have the same pattern on both lens, if you got 2 different lens then someones fitted a wrong lamp previously.

if you look at the lamp from the front of the vehicle it should have a small arrow on it and an 'e' mark, the arrow should point to the kerb for it to be uk spec

Well, I stand corrected, but the 2001 parts catalogue lists different numbers for each side.

those are locating lugs for making sure that the hedlamp sits horizontal in the frame, I know this may sound a bit silly but has someone accidentally fitted the frame on that inside the car upside down? as they do then to have symetrical buckets behind the lamp.
You can remove them as long as the headlamp sits safe and secure in the frame, the chrome surround will hold it safe enough.
off course the other  thing is I wonder if the dealer has sourced the headlamps from  another source and they are not genuine parts.
( the same lamps are fitted to  suzuki/bedford rascals, daihatsu's and various other car brands)

The part number on the light is 67806092.

I have 2 here, one dated '97 the other '98 and the same light will fit either side, the lugs are in the same place on each light.

If you need one I can send you one. There is some corrosion though, round the side-light bulb.
