my mate has some wrangler 2.5 petrol axles

would these axles fit under a xj 1996 and be stronger than the ones already there

not sure what year the wrangler is but has axle id of 42266 if that means anthing to someone

They're the same axles, D30 front, D35c rear.

you would have to cut the mounting brakets off yours and weld them on the wrangler axles and you would need to make sure it was all spot on or you might get some strange handeling quirks

If your gonna swap, you need BOTH axles. XJ came with 3.73 gear ratio, while 2.5l Wranglers came out of the box with 4.10 gears. Simply swapping one axle will cause driveline bind. Also, get the entire axle, yokes & all, not positive but they might be different spline counts depending on the year.

as far as i`m aware the axles are complete front and rear but will check ,

would the gearing be ok with 33" tyres,or should i look for some other axles

or should i just stick with originals

4:10 gears are a dream with 33". Had them in my YJ with the crap 2.5, was only able to get the truck stuck once. Those axles would totally be for the win.

It's my experience that for 33" tyre the best ratio is 4:56 - unless you are motorway cruising...

4:56! That'd be like a sherman tank! lol. Great combination. On my buddys XJ, we setup a Ford 9inch rear axle & a Dana 44 high pinion front axle with 4.56 gears running 37" tires. Problem is, its also his daily driver, and it suffers trying to get on the highway, as did my YJ.

I have 5:13 with 37" Boggers one tonne HP Terra 50 front with 60 Knuckles and Rockcrusher LP60 rear - axle used for off road mostly.....works for me.

Petrol consumption is in single figures though.

As for mpgs, yeah, he's also getting single digits. But he takes his to work every day. We just cut off then entire exhaust in an effort to get a little more out of it.
