Have to say I love any tuning possibilities.
V8 for me every day 'cos I know a good'un will out live me!!

The JP stroker was an interesting build-up .....but where is it now???
I am sure it ate its camshaft first  off  and then later expired altogether.
I am also sure I read that the tech writer Hazel was it wished they had left the cherry as it was....

Dead easy to get 350 horses and 3-400 torque thingies from a 350. got to be way to go.
Just my personal opinion of course.
On a note that not many have mentioned. Anorak anorak....
Find yourself a 500cid caddy lump with TH400 behind it (they all had it)
advance adapters to attach Atlas to TH400 and you got running gear for life 400 bhp off idle and 500 foot torquies. fantasy fantasy
www.500c.i.d.com  is the site I think, that can make em fit a Jeep.
Must get back to work. cheers

Yeah we ran one in the eighties in a wheelie truck, i think we had a holley 4 barrel on it with a set of headers, as you say  very reliable :-)

firstly, very nice mr Henry but there's no way in hell i could even afford that in my dreams. unless you'd like to give me a none returnable loan??? :-( altho it does look like the dingbat ran in the cam correctly!

currently the pistons are 0.032" below deck, but when i find out the cc, an work out everything else, i might have that taken off the block when i take it to the machine shop.
i might forget the valve angle job (unless you can convince me otherwise)
im not sure what head gasket im using yet either, ill probly get one from yank land instead of the composite one ive got in the garage.
i will be ballancing the rods and pistons.
unfortunately ive got three 97 heads to practice porting with. still not a bad option tho.
ill be purchasing a set of 24lb/hr injectors (run 25.7lb/hr at 49psi)
an just the throttle body to boar out after that.

bubba your not wrong, NO built/modified engine will ever last as long as a standard one or even slightly modded one, but where would the fun in that be? an frankly i don't expect it to with my driving

500cid caddy lump with TH400
if i had one of those shoved up my sleave i would make it fit!

Here ya go

And I've also been down the 500ci Caddy route, but mine was in a '72 Coupe DeVille. Hmm, 8.2 litres and front wheel drive........

Just a thought, I have the engine and box from a BMW M5 sitting on a pallet. 5.0 litre V10 with 7 speed SMG flappy paddle, 507 bhp........... I've measured it and it WILL fit

Ive found the discs on e bay for 40 quid, the calipers are gonna be around a hundred second hand, and the bracket is a piece of3/8 steel.
The drawing of the bracket is on the thread somewhere :-)
Heres the bracket, http://www.abeenterprises.com/files/CJ- ... racket.pdf

Reality check
« Reply #95 on: December 23, 2008, 11:21:06 AM »

Well I was going to throw J20 axles under the YJ but I just got slapped round the face with a reality check.

I really new this all along but had the hippy rose tints on while I bench built this in my head!

I just anoraked off the interweb 2 things that made me reconsider.
JP mag did an article in numerous parts on their 'steal J' TJ they threw money at it and put in a 700R4 result was power sapping and they wished they had gone deeper with the gears. lesson 1

Just read review of 94 YJ with dana 60 under rear. Now we know 35c is a dog so that's why I got a Dana 44 from a TJ and its been bullet proof for 6 years and I can lift it myself.
Seems that it was a three man lift for this dude with the 60 and now he feels his rig is so gutless he's now got to go with engine transplant.
lesson 2

A mate just asked me why change? Well I need to go deeper with gears to maybe 5.38 (or is it 36?) to work with 37s
Deepest you can go with Dana 30 is 4.88 and axles are flexible I know
I 've bent 2.
So its back to Waggy axles 44 front and back. Now I've got the 300 I can go right side drop or if I can find a rare in this country left side drop  that will also work with current gear.

Sometimes it pays to anorak and google
cheers all Jez

jez, i had the j20 d60/d44 combo under my cj with 4.88 gears and 37s and it felt more spritely than when it had 33s and 4.10 geared d30/corp20 combo under it. on the road it was a big improvement

Thanks Jono
I was secretly hoping that would be the case.
Its back to J20s then.
It's the gearing thats crucial
I do love 8 lugs such overkill

Wildwood,
Si Redmond from Bucks Jeep Club has a pair of Dynatrac D60s under his YJ running 4.88s, the stock motor, AX15, a stock NP231 and 38" TSLs. He reckons it is absolutely fine, no performance issues at all.
5.38s would probably be too low for the kind of wheeling we have over here, 5.13s may be a better choice? Just a thought.....

As for the SSBC kit, the calipers and pads (at least for a YJ) are from a Ford Thunderbird Turbo, the discs are bespoke parts made by, and only availabe from SSBC.

As for 300zx calipers, they're the same as Nissan Skyline and therefore the second hand parts market is flooded with cheap bits. What do you want? Upgraded calipers? Performance pads?  8-)

Wasn't someone (maybe MDG?) doing a rear disc kit using Rover 800 calipers a while back?
