XJ brake servo
« on: August 11, 2009, 12:40:29 AM »

Recently I’ve noticed brakes were a bit soft but as I had to have a new set of brake pipes fitted for the mot I was hoping that new pipes and a service would have improved the situation but they are exactly the same, the pads etc are all good and the fluid bled thru with the new pipes.

So the question is are there any known weak points with the brake servo system that I should know about before we dive into that.

XJ 4ltr petrol 1999.

Check the rear drum brakes are adjusted properly. They are supposed to be self adjusting but this is a bit hit'n'miss so it is always worth manually adjusting them from time to time.

Also, when working on the brake lines it is critical not to allow air into the ABS pump. If air does get that far then the only remedy is to plug in the correct diagnostic computer and cycle the pump through a purge program. As your brakes were soft before and after the brake line work it doesn't sound as though this is the problem.
