Title: 16.5" rims and tyre availability???
Post by: wildwood on September 08, 2010, 10:49:30 AM
I need some 8 lug wheelies to move my 1 tons around when they arrive............spotted a screaming deal of 4 rims 16.5" with rotted out tyres £10.......
(my sort of money) :icon_twisted:

Thing is? Can you get 16.5" rubber in Blighty?

Or should I pass on this? :icon_super:

Will do....... but these are skanky Dodge pick up rims from an ex air base truck ..... not wide enough for nice biggggg tyres

Just want to put metric 33-35s  (remold junk) on them for getting to events.......

cheers, but im thinkin that i will run some 37" a/t (hummer again) to get me to places such as cheapfest, then will put on the 44 boggers when i get there, but 33's may make more sense if i cant find big enuff wheels

dont suppose u have a link for a list of trucks with 8 stud at 9/16"? Everytime i search on fleabay nowt comes up

Modding???? Tis a bit grown up for a joiner :jpshakehead: ...... Methinks that will be your area of expertise :icon_super:

Were you thinking of turning 5 on 5.5s or 5 on 4.5s to 8 lug or making spacer adapters ???

Hey Bulldog you must be reading my (what's left of it ) mind....... 33s to get to Cheapfest and 39.5 or similar for mayhem when there :icon_twisted:

44s on the CJ or a FSJ?

Must have been a 'red mist' moment or not having the doors on for the first off roading this year........

Was only afterwards that I thought of all the time I've spent putting winches at both ends..... and why was it that I chose not to use them :jpshakehead:

it can kick in almost at any  speed a hump or ropple in the road can set it off if the wheels and the lift are good all may be well

Just throwing the idea out there? What's that PCD of the 8 lugs? Couple of thoughts I have are; 1- lathe centres out of a old set of 16's and replace the centres with new machined ones? 2- Remove the centres of the eight lug rims and fit them to a set of 16's?
It will take time patience to get spot on trueness. But interesting....

Similar to a 'Pirate' thread then? New centres in old wheels..... Like turning H1 wheels from 7" backspace to 4 " backspace with new centres....Yes I like it.... Just need the wheels now...

Also "seen" for sale £600..................

4 Hummer H2 wheels and tyres

They are the alloy ones in a 17" flavour but with a 5" backspace 8.5" wide and with 315x70x17  AT which equals 34.6" tall

Trouble is all the affordable big mudders are 16" flavour :jpshakehead:

something we did on the beach buggy was to use truck wheels on the back and made adaptor plates the convert 6 stud to 4 stud, might be worth investigating

just a bit of free info about hummer alloys a lot of them fracture in the rim so if you get a set make sure you check em,the hummdinger is on its 3rd set due to them fracturing after hitting pot holes

can you get blank hubs and re drill the bolt positions to a more suitable rim pcd

I know that in USA via 'Pirate 4x4 forum" that they get centres cut for them and re-centre H1 wheels to get less backspace from the 7" that they come with.

So I can't see why we couldn't get any type of 16" rim and get 8 lug centres cut to  recentre the rim  to get the correct 8 lug pattern

u wanna consider 38 monster mudders? i removed the chemical warfare shroud off the J20 today and it turns out my memory is fucked and its runnin 38x15x16.5, if my bro turns it down )& that looks likely) i will punt it on ebay as it is (360 & gearbox & transfer, dana's 44 & 60, + the tyres + blah blah boring bits), but if dont sell high enuff i will be breakin it. I know that is 3rd choice (unless u wanna buy it as it is :003: ) but they will be available by then
