Title: SSBC
Post by: willo on January 16, 2012, 07:16:52 PM
Does anyone know what the discs are for a TJ SSBC conversion, i.e are they a generic disc, like the pads as found on a ........

I did the search function but found nothing

As already said, the pads are '88 T-bird turbo but sadly the discs are bespoke items and only available from SSBC. Ask me how I know................ :jpshakehead:

Random fact - Metro 1.3 front pads are exactly the same size and shape as '88 T-bird turbo. Quick weldy/filey for the handbrake cable lug and they work a treat :icon_super: :003:

I have a SSBC kit on the CJ, not sure if it the same as on the TJ but I did manage to source discs elsewhere as the ones from SSBC were a criminal price and the freight was off the wall. Took me a long time to find so if I can be of some assistance I'm more than willing to give my info out.

Willo,

I was told originally that they were off an International Harvester II this turned out to be incorect but in the process I managed to befriend an International Harvester speciallist in the US and he sourced mine for my by taking the measurements of mine (original) and matching this to ones in a parts catalogue. I still have his contact details. Unfortunatley there was no manufacturer listing on the disc but I do have a part number on the box in the workshop. He told me if I needed future ones just to recontact him and he would source.

Here is my disc spec (actual one I received)

outside dia. 11.72 = 11 3/4" - .0064
Height  2.704 = 2 11/16"
Nom. Thk. 1.185 = 1 3/16"
Discard 1.120 = 1 3/16" + .015
center hole 3.878 = 3 7/8

The centre hole is smaller than my original however I just turned it bigger on the lathe. (about 6mm)

The calipers are the same as Wagoneer ones so pads etc are easy to find

I will look on the box today and get number etc off it. If this is the same as yours then I will give you his email address and you can see if if can get you another one.

Andrew

Mine might be the wrong part for Willo (CJ/TJ), but my contact in the US was a decent guy and would probably be willing to source the correct one if Willo gives him the measurements (like i didi), from what I have found out SSBC seem to adapt odd ball parts together making sourcing elsewhere very difficult (probably a company marketing trick or something) anyways I'm more than willing for Willo to contact this guy if he so wants.
