I'm on my second GC now in 2 months owing to the gearbox packing up in the first one. Now the second car has lost all forward drive from the box, reverse still works, and i only managed to get her home by limping back in low range, even tho that was slipping like mad.
Am i just unlucky or is it time to start looking at a different vehicle.
Help! before i hang myself. I love the way jeeps performs off road, but i cant keep throwing endless amounts of money at the things.
Any ideas on what the problem with car number 2 could be ?

Anyone with any gearbox knowledge on here ?
-
no expert sorry, but are you getting no slip in reverse :017:
-
Have you checked all the fluids levels are correct ?
-
Second this, to much or to little oil and they play up big time.
I know, it took me and Rob a while to get the levels right in mine when we stripped it.
-
the fluid level is between min and max and i have added more fluid to bring it to the max line, just in case it made any difference.
Was going to try the youtube disconnect the cooler pipe trick to change the fluid in the convertor and see if that helps at all. apart from that im absolutely stumped. I didnt really try reverse gear too much, although it pulled immediately i took my foot off the brake as per normal use, whereas in 1,2 or D i had to rev to like 3000 to get it to move. Roadside diagnosis was not helped by the presence of the traffic department range rover and accompanying police officers, although in fairness to them they did stop the traffic to let me get rolling.

hi not to tell you to suck eggs but the check was done with the engine up to temp and the box in neutral
Your shifter cables could be out of adjustment. specialist job
and when was the fluid changed as if it is to old it mite as well not be there

Yes all checked at normal running temp and in neutral. I have no idea when the fluid was last changed, but it is nice and cherry red, so was going to flush the box completely by removing cooler pipes, which im told is the easy way to completely change all the fluid (torque convertor too) rather than just whats in the box itself. Fairly satisfied the shifter cables aren't the problem.

did you fit the replacement box ?

did you fit the replacement box ?
crossed wires here somewhere, i haven't fitted another box. :017:
Anyways, problem fairly well sorted by doing the youtube complete fluid change and adjusting the tv cable courtesy of the youtube video. Fingers crossed thats the end of my gearbox woes
