Now to serious business - FOOD
As part of the plan (that is sort of in my head) i thought it might be an idea to sort some group food for Saturday Night (Friday night i shall be down the local pub)
We need to end up with one option for group purchase (obviously individuals can do as they please)
so whose up for this and a voice between curry and Pizza
I will be doing some posts later with what is being prepared for your entertainment !?!
VOTES PLEASE
-
I would suggest that Pizza would be an easier option if you are ordering for loads of people (not trying to sort out who had a tikka, rogan josh with what rice etc)
Pizza is a sort of all pay so much, chuck various Pizza's in the middle and all tuck in.
Add to that, I can't stand curry!!!
-
Mmmmmmmm.... Could be at a loose end with the 75 (so to speak) but the wiz banger needs a clutch after CF !!
-
I have a vague memory of ordering pizza at west harptree, it appeared to be in a delivery dead spot and we had to collect.
-
Didn't we end up with Pizza being delivered by a nutter in a Subaru Imprezza?
That's 3 years ago.....I think..... :icon_super:
-
I'm happy to go with either, but as we'll be stood in a field, I guess pizza is more fitting...
-
Never been to Haptree.
Could you people in the know tell me if there will be toilets / shower / Portaloo style on the Camping field or do we need to take a shovel and a jerrycan of (cold) water for the morning wash?
-
Curry sounds good but happy with either
-

Shovel and Jerry can I believe from memory.
-
Portable toilets but no shower :icon_winkle:
-
Any fresh water on site Gaz?
-
There was last time Steve, there was a cold water tap mate :icon_winkle:
-
Portable toilets but no shower :icon_winkle:
OK thanks Gaz .
-
Thanks Gaz.
-
Good luck getting a takeaway delivered to the absolute middle of nowhere, doubt a dominos moped would make it up the hill :icon_winkle: :icon_winkle: :icon_winkle:
-
Ok so we tend to be heading toward the eyetalian option
I'll hope to sort the delivery side of things when i get down there on thur/fri
-
If you are ordering loads, they'll travel. Domino's delivered to us in the middle of a Dutch field on the H4H rally.
-
Well I'm not going to make it in the YJ but will come down to catch up with everyone Friday night and hopefully find a passenger seat for a bit of a ride around Saturday morning just to get my Jeep fix.
YJ is getting there but electrickery is proving frustrating :die:
-
Got that manual with all elex in if you still need??
-
Lack of time and a spaghetti of crispy scotch locked and spliced wiring is the killer. Working on someone else's modded car is tricky.
-
Almost tempting to leave the computer and dials wiring and independently wire up the rest through its own box of relays thereby cutting out the crispy stuff :icon_super:
-
Ok here are some plans for mid may
The ever skilful Mr Willets will be setting out some punches his desire is to challenge you not only on how to get to the first but the transition to the next one
I will be trying my hand at setting out 2 trial courses. I hope for one to be easier, the second to be a bit more of a challenge. We will be working to the rules of the 1st club I went trailing with which in my opinion are more fun - see below
To keep the excitement going we will also have snooker for jeeps and blind driving. I would suggest that only very strong friendships/marriages attempt the latter (divorce did follow its last outing)
Finally there will be letters/numbers out on the site that spells a word or phrase that's important
I hope to have a communal bonfire running from approx 20.00 on the Saturday - pallets and wood supplies please, would a chain saw be an idea (only to be used by sober types)
I have mentioned about the scoff for Saturday and hope to have that sorted by then
Trials rules
Start at gate 1 with the white cane in your right
Progress through numbers keeping white on the right
Clear run scores zero points
Penalty Points are as follows
Touch a gate 5
Cross a gate with the inside of any tyre 15
Shunt 10 - 100" have one shunt elected before star
Missed gate 15
Maximum points 40
Break any of my expensive canes 80 points
Just to ram home NO competition is taking place
Everything organised under the control of Birty dastards jeep club
-
Sounds like a good laugh....
-
Looking forward to it!

Is there any hard standing are I could park a 7.5t truck on? I may have access to one for the weekend but I'll need to keep it clean (ish) and not get it bogged down in a field.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
There is a big area that can take many trucks. It's just a bit tight getting in and out but doable
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Make sure if you're towing or got the big truck you come in from the west otherwise you'll have to go past and down the road a few miles to turn.

Cheers for that Jez, I've never been before...
-
I followed the satnav and it took me through Bristol suburbs up stupid steep slopes with traffic lights on and an ailing Grand Cherry that had a dying gearbox.......stress is not half the story.....
Boring......but M5 down to near Weston Super Mare the head east to venue......
If you're not towing then any route is good.......
Unless you're an HGV reversing God.........I am certainly not :hysterical:
-
Yep, I like motorways when towing, I don't mind a few extra miles to avoid the hills, even tho the D4 seems to breeze up them, what junction on the M5 is best then?
-
Just had the map out....
Looks like J21 then left of Motorway to get onto A368 take right onto B3143 to stop, you approaching from wrong direction.....then acute turn to north to west harptree and entrance on right......
Google map will make it all seem slightly more sensible......
Right then.....off to the dentist ......after 12 years :hysterical: so......
Hollywood teeth time :icon_twisted:
-
In through Bristol or Bath is doable but certainly raises the stress levels - a dying GC or a mega wide Ram and trailer would be enough to tip anyone over the edge.
To answer the question, yes there is hardstanding suitable for parking up a truck. Coming into the site through the bigger gate and then into that area might be best - see the street view picture below - I'd suggest the right hand gate then park up on the hardstanding which is down on the left of that picture.
-

Ah nice one thanks.

Carlos,
Cash received mate thanks, your on the list :icon_super:
-
Super. See you Saturday :ace:
-
Are we all ready then (apart from the general)
I've run out of time to finish my bead locks, they only need paint and the dreaded air tightness test, got a full weeks work ahead of me, so a bit risky to start taking tyres off wheels,
I'm also stuck in 4low but this isn't a problem, it's been like it for the last 12 months, got the Novak shifter to fit but not sure I'll get it done,
-
Err, not exactly :icon_redface:
New windscreen being fitted Tuesday, MOT Wednesday and got to sort new stop / tail lights first because one of the LED ones has taken a crap. If I have time after that I might get a chance to fit a winch and test drive it properly. Everything is crossed, I have no spare time if something big needs doing but I have put a lot of hours in getting it this far so hopefully...
-
Fingers crossed for you pal, I'm looking forward to seeing it....
-
cleaned mine is as far as i have got need to track down committee trailer and load moose with camping gear and fit a rear seat
-
Well I'm ready I think. OK I have cheated slightly by buying a new jeep :greggmo: Ran out of time to get props made for the Xj, ones I've welded up work but very out of balance so brought the tj off Charlie. Will give me time to sort the Xj properly.
Looking forward to driving something different :steeringwheel:
-
Donk in a Tj
That'll take some getting used to..
-
State of play as of this evening
Both props seized and joints mullered, took them to local prop guy
Wheel bearings destroyed by mud...
Not sure how to make the steering work with the bigger diff...
Good news, 44 is in , extended shock mounts and shocks in
Still a bit of work to do, probably be down Saturday morning if i get it all worked out
-
Donk in a Tj
That'll take some getting used to..
I know, it feels very short and unstable....
So every one is cutting it close with getting jeeps ready then.
-
Pretty much done ...... but I wont be able to disconnect the front end as the track bar and its axle end mounting bracket are bent enough to mean that at anywhere near full flex it binds with the steering links, so I guess I may not be doing much to seriouse or I'll be ringing the local recovery peeps.
I've sourced a new bar and when converted to an adjustable I will need to book in with Bubba for a fix ...
-
Zac, you are on the list :icon_winkle:
-
Woo thanks gaz, can't wait. Almost ready, just hoping my high lift hood mounts come in time
-
Emily and I will be coming down for both days, not sure when arriving yet though. We'll only be having a gentle bimble around in my XJ, as it needs to be kept working for daily driver duties! :003:
I can't remember payment details, but will have a scout around for them this evening!
-
I'll be there Saturday or Sunday but in the grand cherokee, not getting the final parts for the TJ until Friday so it'll be a week late

Will be ther but not in the jeep.
can i blag a few rides round over the weekend?
-
I'll be heading down for Saturday morning
-
I may still come down for a visit in the Pajero. Daren"t off road it though. SWMBO would kill me!!!!
-
I'll be heading down for Saturday morning
Me too, is the yj defo making an appearance then?
On a trailer?
-
No go unfortunately, just headed out for MOT thinking I'd sorted everything and the nsf caliper stuck on and was smoking so had to abort. It's so close but just can't get that sorted and an MOT for the weekend. Jeep drives and everything works apart from that - it's 'interesting' to drive but not much different to the XJ apart from a funny third pedal and lots of wind in the face.
-
No chance of freeing it off and trying again then? Gutted.
-
I will be down on saturday morning, been crazy busy and not had time to swap in my rebuilt engine, so mine will be the xj that looks like a steam engine running on oil soaked coal. Hope it makes it there.
-
Thats a shame James.
-

You'll be reet Kev,
I'll keep an eye out for you on the hard shoulder..
-
That's a bummer James, was hoping for a look at the beast...
-
Don't want to clog this thread up really so I'll put tech stuff in the tech section.
It's my own fault really, not just leaving it to the last minute but I should have replaced the calipers when I cleaned them up and thought that they seemed a bit corroded and old looking. Even if I got to the MOT station I don't fancy driving 4 hrs with brakes that keep sticking.
I might come down if the weather is good and I'm feeling like a drive or I might just strip the brakes down ready for new calipers (just ordering from Rockauto now).
I'll do some pics but it actually doesn't look much different to when I got it, it just works better now. In fact it probably looks worse with a dodgy trailer light fitted on the back as an MOT 'fix'.
-
ha, Cheers Ezz.
-
Kev,
Could always come and get you with my trailer if things turn bad, although I have a huge session on Friday putting mine back together first, not saying anything yet......

Me too!!! Sitting here so pi**ed off looking at my poorly Jeep out of the window.
-
Cracking weekend, thanks for the efforts from the organisers, me and Carlos posted the fastest time in the blind driving.. :strum:
-
Great weekend. Thanks to all. Avoided divorce in the blind driving so a winner for me.
-
Thanks to all for a really great weekend. So nice to find a sociable and open minded club. Big thanks to Tim for his time and patience walking me round the gates. Looking forward to the next Birty's event :)))
Peter (White JKU)
-
What a weekend, good to be back with good friends for a friendly and entertaining weekend. Jo had a great time so looks like a jeep may be sourced at some point. I now blame Jez because Jo had a permanent smile after a ride out in the big truck. Thanks Paul for the ride in the CJ was needed to give comparison to mine
-
Despite a seized front caliper and a Fippin transmission that refused to go into 5th gear we made it at Haptree in almost 8 hours on Friday the 13th (What do you expect !) but came back home yesterday in 3 hours.
I would like to thank Tim and everyone involved in organising this Brilliant Breakout.
We had a great time on the site but also in the evening around the mini Bonfire watching Tony throwing Gripper rods in the fire and expertly cutting logs (when not sipping Guinness). :icon_jook:
-
Thanks to Tim and all who organised, excellent weekend especially the impromptu fire, we may need to buy tony a new barbecue!
-
Great weekend and thanks to all who made it happen.
Weather helped too :icon_super:
Currently having a Pirate anorak session about beadlocks........ :jpshakehead:
I will be reporting back and boring you...... :icon_biggrin:
-
Thanks chaps
you're thoughts would be appreciated in what you thought was good - what less so and any additions
the punches well the blind driving with Mr W's coaxing even more so
the trials were OK
-
Trials were fun, and the fact that it wasn't a queue up and wait like some club events was the cherry on the cake.
Blind driving was ....... Well I'd never done it before....and it was also a laugh...... Left left ....no other left....l :hysterical:
Punch hunt was good and although I didn't go balls out for the difficult ones the fact that they were there was good for those that like to test their skill to the max.
So great weekend.... :icon_biggrin:
-

Great wheels made to order, any size any offset, just the price that makes you gag
-
I'd have them in a heartbeat if it was 4 for the price of 1 . Amazing and bullet proof design.
-
Had a really great weekend... big thanks to Tim and all who organised and put the weekend together, a top job :icon_super:. Must thank Bubba and Tony for trying to sort my TC problem and managing to get it into 2 wheel drive so I could at least get home under my own steam.
Tim I think the whole set up of activities made the weekend suitable for all abilities in both driver confidence and vehicle capability with no pressure to do any more than you wanted. I personally did not do the blind driving ( just me being whimpy ! ) snooker was fun and different, Easier trials still good and I sort of did whatever gates I fancied on the other trials section, the punches where as challenging as you wanted them to be, I personally got about 9 and was happy with that. As Wildwood has mentioned the amount of activities meant you could get on and do stuff without the queue up.
Cheers ...
-

Only a couple more pictures of last weekend.
Ezz here in action always spectacular to watch.
I'm not sure who is in the other one but I took him over on the M25 and thought he reminded me of Dastardly and Muttley which was known to me as Satanas et Diabolo when I was a Toddler. :003:

No sorry Kev I didn't even know you ended up on your side.
That must have been early on the Saturday because you were there before I went to Town to get some food for lunch and I don't remember seeing you again when I came back.

I've not had a chance to get on here this week, but thank you all for an amazing weekend!
We both had an excellent time and it was really good to catch up with a bunch of you guys.
Once again I've come home completely impressed with what the XJ can do and so far no technical problems with it as a result!
The blind driving course was terrifying for me but Emily did well, especially considering she'd never driven properly off road before!
Thanks to all that organised, and we'll see you at the next one! :003:

well as this the first time in ages i had five mins i just wanted to say how much i enjoyed going to the breakout after missing the last couple of years
it was super to catch up with folks we simply dont get out enough the first night was nearly a disaster with a tent donated by donk we arrived late and the daylight was nearly gone and i had never seen the tent up never mind how it went together donk walked over and helped me work it out
after a near frozen to death night the Saturday was upon us and though overcast and chilly did warm up nicely we had a lot of fun in our mindy and as always was taken aback at just how good these little trucks can be with modest cost and tech
i can confirm there is plenty condensed into harptree to give a very enjoyable weekends fun we had a go at everything enjoyed the snooker very much and the canes
Saturday night bought pizza and fire and then cooking as the kids were still hungry i was absolutely amazed to find i had been nominated for a prize well two actually not sure what the one was but winning the spirit of the event prize bowled me over thanks to everyone involved in that truly
sunday was busy as they always are breaking camp and having a last play the mindy was somehow not quite right and cut out a couple of times it seems to have oil pump failure when cold runs and slowly warms up gets tight stalling the engine and wont restart untill cool again :017: :010: :010: :banghead: strangely this happened at my last trip to wagtail in my old mindy :017: so i am at a bit of a loss there :017:
however we loaded up said goodbuy and sett of with the moose towing and we plodded along getting overtaken by various birtys i did get tug envy when overtaken by jez in the hippy express towing all his kit like it wernt there then we had an emergency wee wee stop for maxx [4] we were ther only a few seconds when both donk and big andy pulled over to see if they could help thanks guys stars the pair of you
i would very much like to thank Tim for taking the the blame for the event and Tony for the effort he to put in and everyone who came always super to see you guys......and thanks to the new mrs dave for doing Georges platts saturday night
