Drive train selector on cherokee 93'
« on: December 08, 2007, 08:50:57 PM »

When I got the 4.0 cherokee limited93' I didnt have the handbook, Is there a particular method of selecting the drive train??? I have selected 4 wheeldrive in park with the engine off, but the lever seems to be easily knocked into a different selection, at the mo im running in two wheel drive but with all this rain I would prefer 4 wheel drive!!! Might be a dumb ass question, but rather than damaging bits I would rather be safethan sorry!!!

hi they need a firm pull to get  past part time 4x4, don't whatever you do run this on tarmac off road only,
you can shift on the fly up to about 40 ish between 4x4 full time (green light ) and 2wd.
if its never been used they can be stiff, so change it 2 to 4 wd a couple of times a week to free it up.
4 low stationary in N
hope this helps

you can change the selector when the jeep is moving, pulling straight back should show the FWD full time green light. sometimes you may get the part time light come on, just shift the gear to neutral out of drive and give the engine a small blip on the throttle then put it back into drive. this should engage the FWD. selecting back to 2WD might have the same initial problems. The more you do it the easier it becomes as the mechanism is being used more and frees up after probably no use at all. I had concerns about being stuck in PT4WD but with more use it is now not a problem,
you can change gear stationary but it is better when the jeep is moving
