That would be these then.

http://http://www.jksmfg.com/quicker_disconnectsTJ_XJ_ZJ.htm

What they do?

Allow you to disconnect the anti roll bar on the front axel to allow greater travel of said axel when offroad.

Some would say they are the best, but there are other makes.

Ahhh, that's exactly hwat I was thinking (hoping) they were.

Must make a hell of a difference disconnecting the roll bar?

There's a relatively innocuous looking rut at Nor-trak that I can't get past becuase despite the 3" lift and 31" tyres, the diff grounds out.

Picture it:

Fairly steep uphill track with a 45 degree turn to the left about half way up (also sloping uphill). There's a hole about 6" lower then the rest of the rut on the apex of the corner, on the left hand side. Discos and defenders go straight through it but every time i've tried i seem to run out of articulation. Guy that runs the place just said I had to accept the xj probably wouldn't do it...

I think you would have to ask one of the guys that offroad an XJ (KD, Chris Jones, Dr Mike) as to if its worth getting some. (I dont offroad my XJ now I have the CJ)

But I think that most would say that fitting them would be one of the first things to do.

After some good tyres, it is THE upgrade to do.

I have JKS quicker discos. and wouldn't be without them.

They make a massive difference.  It's also worth removing the rear anti roll bar.  It don't do much anyway and the back end will flex better without it.

Disconnects:

Get some, stick them on, and show those landie owners just how wrong they were

Hmmm, sounds worthwhile. How easy is it to disconnect and reconnect the rear antiroll bar??

No, you miss understood.

The procedure is:

1) Disconnect rear anti roll bar completely.

2) Chuck over nearest hedge.

No offence to any landie owners on here but i've found that a lot of them really look down their noses at the xj. They conveniently ignored the fact that i pulled a stuck 130 out of a mudhole a few weeks ago...

agree with chris here, take rear antiroll bar off & throw over nearest hedge......tis only a bent paperclip anyway!!!

then get some disconnects on the front & you will be stunned the difference it makes!!

then get yourself a bumper sticker like mine to really piss the landie owners off!!!

Heck, just disco'ing the front axle makes a huge difference.  We are running the Rubicon GenII disco's on the wife's XJ.  She's running 31's and does just fine.  Her XJ only has a 2" OME kit on it though, but the rear sway bars are still hooked up.  Can you guys tell any road manner differences on pitch and roll with the rears removed?  If so, how much?

;)

I've got a Skyjacker 3" lift on mine and the ride is much stiffer than stock.

With the rear AR bar fitted the back end felt a bit sketchy.  Once I'd junked it, the rear felt a lot more supple and (in my opinion) improved the on road ride. I still drive my truck quite hard on the road, there's lots of twisty lanes on my way to work and having the back end 'softer' than the front works well.

I don't know what others think though..........

Lefty, get your discos sorted first mate! I hated my XJ off road without the discos got stuck in every little mole hole, but when I put them on, shit what a differance
Really increases the capability of the truck! :D

Get the JKS Disconnects.

Thinking about the track you describe though - because of the passenger side diff on an XJ and the landies having driver side diffs it may just be unfortunate that with the hole being on the left hand side, on the bend, that the XJ will bottom the diff and landies won't.

Hope that makes some sense. It may be fixed with disco's but if not it may just need to be driven differently to how the landies drive it.

Yeah, unfortunately due to steep (and deep) verges either side of the track there is no other way to drive it!!

Disconnects seem to be the way to go...  :D
