does it do something. i cant see any difference when changing position PRND31-2 when press it or not? another broken bit or what?

I think it's supposed to stop you from changing into drive or reverse from neutral or park, or something along those lines. Sounds like it's probably broken, although I'm sure someone who knows more will be along to help :003:

Shouldn't come out of park unless it's depressed.

It should stop you from accidentally knocking the selector forward into Reverse or Park From Drive without a deliberate action. Handy for when you stick the brakes on and the Missus has used your centre armrest as a handbag stand.

The ones I've pulled apart,  have a spring loaded plastic rod which locates into a slotted track. Either the end of the rod has broken or the spring has failed.

Don’t know, I’ve never done one on a Jeep but if you’re not confident about pulling things apart and sussing out how they work then you’re best leaving it to someone who is.

If you do have a go and assuming you can get the parts a word of warning:

Do it on level ground with the wheels chocked - to get the centre console out you normally need to have the selector in the middle out of park and you’re messing about around the handbrake lever (need I say more?).

If you need to disconnect any mechanical cables on the selector, leave it alone, these go to the autobox and have to be in a set position.
