Any one ever used Protectakote
«

I'm tarting up the interior of the cj7
I have pulled out all the old manky carpet and was wondering if it was a good idea
to lay a coat or 2 of this protectaKote down either underneath or instead of new carpet
http://www.anti-slip-paint.co.uk/protectakote-bedvan-liner-black-p-4.html
Any one had experience of it good or bad. Does it last and is it as good as it sounds ?

I've used it, but only recently at work to line the floor on the inside of a Ford Fiesta I think. All the carpets had completely worn through so it needed something as the grip paint that had been used previously had worn through too. That was just cheaper stuff that's like paint with sand in it.
I don't know if the vehicle is still at Manchester or it's been sent to another airport. I'll look for it if I get a chance tomorrow and if it's still at MAN I'll get a pic or two of the finish. It goes on easy enough but does need decent ventilation when going on and can't be got wet till dried. Gets tacky in about four hours for recoating and full cure takes 2-3 days. As with most things good preparation is the key. You get rollers and paint brushes with the 4L kit. I just stippled it on with a brush as only doing the floor.

Maybe it's because I only used a brush but it's fairly smooth in the car I did. As I said I'll see if it's about for pics.

Cheers Jonny - always good to get someone that has used it. Be interested to hear how it's holding up and pics would be great
Bd - nice one, had not even thought about pool paint. Have you got carpet on top of it or is it good enough to have as a floor covering.
Ideally I'm after a tough finish that can be swept out when looking rough, even a quick wash over with a wet sponge and shazam good as new
Cheers

Try a wash n dry on it!
No carpets, & yes will just wash n dry and off you go. Comes in liads of colours as well

I have a kit ready for the 6, I brought it before I painted her but my Dad did his and whilst its great and strong its a bugger to clean and will always look dirty due to the way dirt will get trapped in the undulations, I went with a heavy duty 2 pack industrial machine paint in matt black for mine. It's bloody strong stuff but does allow you to wipe down the inside properly.

The inside of my TJ tub was sprayed with protectakote over 10 years ago, lasted very well. Stood up to loads of abuse. Not to fussed about keeping it that clean, just brushed out Jeep every year or so! Can be a right pain to remove if you want to do any welding though. And they might have changed the mix since I last used it.

use a paint brush = smooth finish
use a roller = stippled finish.

Got a pic. The car hasn't been anywhere it's outside the workshop stuffed into a corner. Put the key there for scale so you can get a better idea of the finish, which as I said was stippled with a brush.

spraying tends to give the best results i have used it inside and out and i am not that impressed when applying by brush and roller.
you might want to try a professional spray job by line-x seen some of there work and i have been very impressed.

Got to say I'm tempted to do the inside of DF with it.

Will it go through a spray gun though
I thought it had bits of rubber mixed into it to give it the anti slip finish which would clog a spray gun ( my knowledge of spraying starts and ends with the word spraying )
Thanks for the pic Jonny, it looks quite lumpy in that pic...
The finish looks really good in nosebolts tub was that sprayed on or roller ?
I think I will give it a try and see how it goes, will report back with results

use a roller, has to be a foam type not a furry one, I got my best result by doing a quick thin coat and letting it tack off then over with a heavy coat, wait five mins then over again with the roller but no extra paint, rolling in one direction only.

Let us know how you get on if you do go down the Protectakote route. I've been looking for something like it and even considering the Line-X route (they'd do a much neater job than I could even dream of), big price difference though.
